Naomi Osaka wants to play again | Tennis News

Four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka looks set to return to tennis soon after she had “that itch” to play again.
Osaka told the US Open earlier this month that she would take a break from the game to focus on her sanity following a third round loss to Leylah Fernandez.
The former world number one, who retired from the BNP Paribas Open next month in Indian Wells, has struggled to get back into shape since she retired from Roland Garros in May following a ‘an argument with tournament officials over required media appearances, which she says have had a negative impact. on her.
But the 23-year-old Japanese player told HBO’s “The Shop” that she still enjoys the sport and is already looking to return to the field.
“I know I’m going to play again, probably soon because I have this itch again,” she said. “But it wouldn’t really matter to me if I won or lost. I would just have the joy of being back on the pitch.”
Osaka, who slipped to seventh in the world rankings, said the tough games had started to take their toll on her and she needed a break to cool off.
“I used to love competition and just being competitive. If I had to play a long game, the longer it was the more fun it was for me,” she said.
“Then I just started to feel – recently – the longer it was, the more stressed I got. But I just needed a break to come inside myself.”
