Tarleton announces 2022 tennis schedule, Texans to host 10 games

STEPHENVILLE – A busy spring is ahead for the Tarleton tennis team, which announced their 2022 schedule on Friday.

The Texans will play 23 games next semester, including 10 at Stephenville on the Potishman-Lard tennis courts. The 10 home games are the most Tarleton has planned in a single season in at least 15 years.

March will be the busiest month for the Texans, with eight games scheduled. There will be seven in February, including four at home, including the first in Stephenville on February 11. In January, five games will be played on the road, and April concludes the year with three games in total, including two at home.

Tarleton will get a major test right off the bat with a road game at Texas A&M on Jan. 16 at College Station at the Mitchell Tennis Center. The Aggies are 58-20 in their last three seasons. The next day on the same courts, the Texans will play a neutral game against McNeese. On January 22, Tarleton faced off against another Power Five conference team on the road to Oklahoma, a double-pick in Norman. On January 28, the Texans will play Lipscomb in Nashville, and their first month of the spring campaign ends the next day in Belmont, also in Nashville.

It’s three road games in three consecutive days to start the Texans’ February schedule, at Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas on February 4, at Louisiana Tech on February 5 in Ruston, Louisiana, and finally, at Grambling State in Grambling, Louisiana, February 6. The first action at the Potishman-Lard tennis courts of spring will take place on February 11, with Tarleton hosting Southwestern. The Texans will spend the remainder of the month at home against Montana State and the UTPB on February 18 and the UTRGV on February 20.

To start March, Tarleton will play two games in Phoenix at the GCU Tennis Facility against host Grand Canyon on March 4 and a neutral game against Dixie State on March 5. On March 8, the Texans will play a neutral game against Missouri State at the Southeastern Oklahoma campus in Durant, Oklahoma. The Texans return home for a game against Pacific on March 15 before two more neutral games in Huntsville, Texas, against Lamar on March 19 and Stephen F. Austin on March 20 at the Sam Houston campus. Tarleton opens a four-game home game on March 25 against UTEP, followed by a March 26 game against New Mexico State.

The Texans face Sam Houston and UTRGV on April 2-3 at home and end their season on April 8 at Abilene Christian in Abilene, TX.

Tarleton has enjoyed six straight years with a record 0.500 or better. Last season, the Texans were 11-10, 5-1 in conference, winning five of their last six games. They finished second in the regular season in their first season of the Western Athletic Conference. In the fall of this season, the Texans took part in six events, the last time they played in their own Texan Invite on October 22.
